Chemical complexity and diversity in plants in generated from neofunctionalization within well-described enzyme families, which allows for the rapid expansion of metabolic space. My lab is working to provide insight on the biochemistry and evolution of novel enzyme activities within the context of plant metabolism to expand the known chemical landscape of the natural world.
